Mouna Ben Salah

I was born in the year 1976 in Sousse, a famous coastal town In the centre of Tunisia, but I’ve lived most of my life in Hammam Lif, a coastal town about 20 km south-east of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. I went to primary and secondary schools in Hammam Lif. I got my baccalaureate certificate with honors before moving to the capital to pursue my higher education. I had the intention to study fashion and become a specialized designer, but my parents’ wish collided with mine as they wanted me to pursue a science major. At the university I studied economics, but due to various circumstances, I quitted my studies before graduation. Soon afterwards I got married and had to accompany my husband to the UAE, where he works. That was a turning point in my life.

Career Beginnings

My interest in fashion and design started when I was still a child. My mother used to buy me new clothes, but I never wore them before adding some changes and personal touches to them. These modifications were added with the help of my neighbor who was a sewer (tailor). I’ve discovered my inclination towards fashion ever since. In fact, I was so interested in designing that I never wore any dress before adding my personal artistic touches to it with the help of other tailors. These modifications appealed to my friends and neighbors to such an extent that I was always the star of any party, wedding and the like. Later, in the UAE, I decided to improve my artistic taste. Hence, I took a course in Fine Arts in Sharjah Art Area. My first job was a Sales representative for a beauty products company for about 2 years starting from 2002. . It was then that I discovered my talent in communicating, convincing and marketing. This gained me my seniors’ trust, Accordingly I got prompted. This combination of designing skills with communication and marketing abilities led me to think of starting my own fashion design business. Due to severe financial problems, I started designing at home in the year 2004 and my clientele were mostly my friends and neighbours.
